Future Shock, Sensory Trust + The Business of Birth Control (B+A Bulletin #337)

Hello,

Alex in our ops team is currently sifting through the nearly 1500 applications from our recruitment round. We're blown away by how many of you reached out, but plz bear with us while we get in touch with applicants.

So CV's and creative applications aside, here's what's engaged all our senses this week.

Welcome to Bulletin #337.

B+A Babble

This week has seen protests in cities across America as women see their civil rights under threat and access to safe abortion at risk. Bodily autonomy should never be up for debate, and the news that Roe v Wade is at risk is core shaking.

Through our work with HRA Pharma and others, we've spoken to countless women and nonbinary people fighting for equitable and meaningful progress in reproductive justice.

Two such trailblazers are friends of B+A BOBB films. Led by filmmakers Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, the company's newest film The Business of Birth Control investigates and exposes the pill's risks alongside the racist legacy of hormonal contraception. Weaving together the stories of bereaved parents, body literacy activists and femtech innovators, the film reveals a new generation seeking holistic and ecological alternative birth control.

You can stream the film in the US, or sign up for updates for when it'll be available in your country, here.

Congratulations are in order to the community music organisation, UD - where the likes of Little Simz and Def Jam's Alex Boateng cut their teeth. This week they opened their doors to The Talent House London - their new purpose built education and production facility in Stratford East London.

Andrew (who's on their board of trustees) says:

"Expert advice, from friends developed over UD's 20+ years growing the UK's black music industry, means these studios are spec-ed to the highest standard. So if you're in London, and are have music or podcasts you need to make, or even if you're looking for a creative place to take your team for an offsite, there's currently no place better."

B+A Books etc.

Future Shock, a new exhibition at 180 The Strand, seeks to transform the studios 'subterranean spaces through mesmerising and immersive digital technology - from generative and interactive algorithms, AI and 3D digital mapping, to spellbinding laser work, holographic projections and groundbreaking electronic music'.

Featuring original commissions and UK premieres, all 14 pioneering digital artists are at 'the apex of sound and vision' and are redefining space to create a new kind of artistic experience.

It's about the future, and both Katy and Ben from the team took their members of the future generations to see the multi-sensory experience in the past few weeks.

Check it out, and get booked in here.

B+A Big up

Another week, another problem solver the world needs now -  recognised and celebrated by a member of our team. This week, Mo shares her choice.

Mo (and Luke) had the great privilege of interviewing Jane Stoneham as part of a project to better understand how to enhance our sensorial experiences. Jane is the Director of The Sensory Trust, an organization that helps create accessible and engaging nature experiences.

Mo says:

"Jane coo’d us into her world with her soft, poetic tone and deep knowledge and adoration for the environment. Jane’s guidance helped us recognize the necessity of connecting with our surroundings, particularly nature, in order to reconnect with ourselves. Best part? She leans on the wisdom of children to honor the natural impulses of the body to touch, smell, and play with curiosity, something we adults could all be reminded of from time to time."

B+A Bye

Celebrate your body this week - listen with all five senses, connect with your emotions, and create something only you can.

....Have I actually given you a brief there? Yep, guess I have. You're really part of the B+A inner circle now.

Until next time.
